Corrections officials are searching for a man who walked away from a Lone Peak work program Monday afternoon.

Vernon Satchell, 40, was one of nine men working on asbestos removal at the Union Pacific Depot in downtown Salt Lake City, said Jack Ford, Corrections spokesman. A van came to pick up the inmates about 4 p.m. and authorities couldn't find Satchell.A parole officer told officials he saw Satchell in Pioneer Park about 4:15 p.m. Monday, but wasn't aware he was back in prison. Satchell has a long criminal history dating back to 1976, Ford said. His convictions include armed robbery and drug dealing, and he was most recently sent back to prison on a parole violation.
