A fire ripped through the living and dining rooms of a West Valley home Wednesday, causing $25,000 damage in 20 minutes, fire officials say.

West Valley firefighters conducted a fast attack about 10:17 a.m. after arriving to find flames and smoke evident from inside the single-level house at 4207 S. Brookfield Circle (5520 West), a West Valley fire dispatcher said. They issued an all-clear signal 20 minutes later at 10:37 p.m. The source of the fire was not immediately known, but it did not start from the residents' Christmas tree, West Valley City Fire Battalion Chief Moose Barkdull said.

A cat died in the fire, but the residents were not home, Barkdull said.
