The three-day halt in the IRA's military campaign against the British presence in Northern Ireland, which is scheduled to end midnight Sunday, is traditionally carried out over the Christmas break.Both British and Irish governments had hoped that the traditional Christmas cease-fire would be extended in response to the Anglo-Irish peace initiative signed in London last week.
