One of three self-described white supremacist skinheads pleaded no contest this week in 2nd District Court to a third-degree felony charge of rioting in connection with a July incident at a Layton apartment complex.
Jerry L. Jacobs, 19, Salt Lake City, entered the plea before Judge Rodney S. Page. Jacobs, who told Layton police he is founder and president of a group called Skinheads for White Independence, faces up to five years in prison. Two other self-proclaimed white supremacists, Jason L. Schmitt, 19, Riverdale, and Jacques A. Wright, 20, Layton, face pretrial hearings Jan. 4 on the same charge.
The three, along with one other adult and four juveniles, were arrested after Layton police responded to the apartment complex July 1.
Police reported they found the group, dressed in dark clothing and brandishing weapons, shouting racist slogans and threats against black residents.
Police confiscated rifles, clubs, shotguns and knives from the group. They reportedly told the police they went to the complex because a friend had been threatened by gang members.
The four juveniles were referred to juvenile authorities and one adult, who said he had nothing to do with the incident, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and paid a $100 fine, according to court records.
