Ken Hatfield, who coached six seasons at Arkansas, returned to the Southwest Conference as football coach of Rice, replacing Fred Goldsmith, who resigned Dec. 16 to coach Duke. Hatfield has a 113-62-3 record over 15 seasons - five at Air Force, six at Arkansas and four at Clemson.
