Marvin Hamlisch, who has a foot in both the pop and classic musical worlds, will have a busy New Year. He's the music director and conductor for Barbra Streisand's two Las Vegas New Year's concerts and has agreed to conduct and record with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1994. He has been associated with Streisand since he was an assistant vocal arranger for her first Broadway show, "Funny Girl." His ties with the London Symphony began when it performed his first symphonic work, "Anatomy of Peace," last September.
