Our wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Vella Ann Clarke Jones, passed away Thursday December 23, 1993 at the Cottonwood Hospital.
She was born on October 4, 1901 in Newton, Utah, the daughter of David Robert Clarke and Martha Jane Cooley. She married Joseph Oscar Jones in the Logan LDS Temple December 24, 1924. Vella C. Jones most recently organized the Midvale Historical Society with display rooms in the Midvale City Hall. She directed activities until 1992. She has always been happy to serve and was a dynamic leader wherever she served. She has been president of the Midvale Community Club, twice developing many projects to help Midvale grow and to help young people with scholarships. She has been a leader in the Utah Federated Women's Club, Utah PTA and PTA in the Jordan School District, both as district president and elementary and junior high president. She was a Grey Lady during World War II. Vella graduated from Brigham Young College in Logan and the University of Utah in 1952. She taught school in Newton, Utah for four years and in Union and Sandy Elementary School for 20 years. She was also active in the LDS Church, serving as stake Relief Society president, stake Junior Sunday School coordinator and many callings in Relief Society and Sunday School. She cared for many as a Relief Society teacher until 1991. She was family historian for many years and the work she did is invaluable to the extended family.She is survived by her husband, Dr. J. O. Jones; two children, son, Dr. Joseph Clarke Jones; daughter, Beryl J. Griffiths; eight grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Jones; great-grandson, Mark Griffiths; brothers, Dr. L. Floyd Clarke and Doral Robert Clarke.
Funeral services Tuesday, December 28, 1993, 11 a.m. in the Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, where friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Newton Cemetery, Newton, Utah. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Midvale Historical Society, in care of Midvale City Hall, Midvale, Utah 84047.
