Gene Browning Ellis, 96, passed away at home in Ogden, Utah on Friday, December 24, 1993.
She was born December 2, 1897 in Ogden, the daughter of Matthew S. and Mary Ann Adams Browning. On August 5, 1920 she married Wallace H. Ellis in the Logan LDS Temple; he predeceased her in 1952.Proud of her pioneer heritage, and particularly the Ogden community, she supported many charitable groups and individuals. Her quiet generosity will be missed by many. She had a close relationship with her brother and three sisters and maintained this close friendship with their families.
Friendly and outgoing to all, her irrepressible sense of humor is legend. Gene loved life and her enjoyment was infectious to all who were around her.
One of her favorite places was her summer home at Bear Lake in Idaho. She first went up to Fish Haven in 1903 with her family, and had never missed a summer since that time. Young in spirit, she loved being around all the children who gathered there.
Her survivors include daughters, Elizabeth (Theodore Schmidt, Jr.) of Diablo, Calif.; Ginger (Robert D. Wallace) of San Diego, Calif.; and sons, Matthew B. Ellis, Ogden; and W. Hague Ellis (Sue J.) of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
