Three cheers for the Utah Supreme Court for their decision allowing prayers at public meetings. And three cheers for Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini for not giving in under the threat of a lawsuit and for refusing to take down the Jewish menorah at the Utah One Plaza.

Attorney Brian Barnard, representing the Society of Separationists, called the Supreme Court's decision a setback for freedom of religion. On the contrary, it is a major victory for freedom of religion and for freedom of religious expression. What Barnard and the Separationists want is freedom from religion.A little used verse in our national anthem says, "May the Heaven-rescued land praise the power that hath made and preserved us a nation." One of the major causes of the many problems that plague our country today is that we, as a people, seem to have forgotten the power that has created and preserved our nation.

Government programs will not solve our problems. More police officers and more prisons will not solve them. These things are no better than putting a little Band-Aid over a life-threatening wound. The only real solution to our problems is to acknowledge the power that has, time and again, rescued our land - that has preserved our nation and blessed us with peace.
