A Utah teen won't get her wish to have a lake in the Uinta Mountains named in her honor.
Sara Sue Jaques, 16, Layton, has been trying for two years to get the name of the lake located near Bear River Service, southeast of Evanston, named "Ramblin Woman Lake."Sara Sue, an avid camper, and her father, Jack, found the lake on an annual Father's Day trip into the mountains. Sara Sue has been nicknamed "the ramblin' woman" because she is a tomboy and her father's frequent outdoors companion. The family has no boys.
Sara Sue and Jack Jaques' Father's Day trip always included a visit to Whitney Reservoir and, for the past few years, to the unnamed lake.
"She came home a couple of years ago and said `that lake should be named after me,' " said Sara Sue's mother, Ray-deen.
Sara Sue worked with the U.S. Forest Service office in Ogden and submitted the necessary paperwork two years ago.
But because Sara Sue is alive and still ramblin', the name was rejected. The board doesn't grant place names for those still living.
