BYU-Hawaii awarded degrees to 140 students from 21 countries at commencement ceremonies Dec. 11 - the largest December graduating class in the history of the school.

The majority of the graduates came from Asia, the South Pacific and the Philippines, as well as from Hawaii and the U.S. mainland. Geok Choo Lo, an accounting major from Singapore, was the valedictorian, while Kwan Wai Kwan, an accounting major from Kowloon, Hong Kong, and Randall Paul Romo, an international business major from Saco, Mont., were the salutatorians.F. William Gay of Kingwood, Texas, one of the original members of the board of directors at the Polynesian Cultural Center, received an honorary doctorate in humanities. He also spoke at the graduation ceremonies.
