The new Miss USA says she aspires to become a role model for children. Kenya Moore, 22, an actress, model and student from Detroit, was crowned Miss USA 1993 Friday night after a pageant in Wichita, Kan.

She is the second black woman to win the title in the competition's 42-year history. (The first, Miss USA 1990 Carol Gist, was also from Michigan.)Miss Georgia Erin Nance was named first runner-up, and Miss Kansas Tavia Shackles was second runner-up.

Moore said her grandmother was a big influence on her and that she herself hopes to become a role model for young people.

"I want reach out to children across America, to let them know that there is someone who cares about them, and that if they try, and they believe in themselves, and if they believe in God, especially in America, anything is possible," she said.
