James "Slim" Bouler, who won thousands of dollars from Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan in a high-stakes golf match, is going to jail for more than nine years without parole.

Bouler was sentenced on Monday. A jury found him guilty in October of unrelated money-laundering and conspiracy charges. The jury acquitted him of conspiring to traffic in cocaine.Jordan admitted on the witness stand that a $57,000 check he gave Bouler was not a business loan, as both men had claimed after the government seized the money. Instead, he said, the money was to cover gambling losses from a weekend of golf and poker.

Jordan said he lied before to avoid embarrassment.
