There's a familiar voice on the "Jon and Dan" show on KLZX (FM-93.3/AM-860) - Clyde Lewis.

He returns to "Z-93" after working at several other stations - KMGR and KJQN. Jon Carter said Lewis is back as an associate producer for the morning show to provide extra creativity."It's great to be back with the greatest radio guys in Salt Lake," Lewis said. He started May 20.

He had been without a radio station since KJQN became KKBE last fall and let most of its staff go. Lewis is well-known for his outrageous humor. While at KJQN, he helped put together what was probably the most creative April Fools' radio stunt in 1992 - making it appear that Japanese investors had purchased the station.

In other KLZX news, Carter also said Amy Bombard, the morning show's sports reporter who recently left the station, will not be replaced. He said the show wants to provide more "funnies" by Jon and Dan, so Dan Bammes will resume doing sports reporting.

"Jon and Dan" are also going to have more special guests and are planning special features for Father's Day next month.

- KDYL (AM-1280) - Mark Van Wagoner and Danny Kramer are on the air an extra hour - from 5:30 to 10 a.m. weekdays. They have also started a TV campaign - promoting themselves as being "married" to KDYL (no, not to each other).

"Mark and Danny" also took listeners on a bus trip to Wendover May 28, and on June 3 they'll be taking some lucky listeners on the Oregon Trail's special steam train.

KDYL is also hoping to switch on its new 10,000-watt transmitter in Utah County this week to increase its listening audience south of Salt Lake City.

- KKDS (AM-1060) - Sports Illustrated's new radio show for kids airs weekends on "The Imagination Station."

"The Inside Story From SI For Kids," a five-minute weekly radio show featuring challenging quizzes, fun facts from the world of sports and interviews with major sports figures, is broadcast via the Children's Satellite Network (CSN).

The show airs twice on Saturdays and twice on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

- CHILDREN'S MUSIC RANKINGS - Radio AAHS (alias the "Children's Satellite Network") is now doing weekly rankings of songs based on thousands of listener telephone requests. This is the only record chart in the country that lists children's preferences.

Last week's top songs (in order) were: "My Name Is Cheech I'm the Busdriver," "Prince Ali," "Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego," "Super Mario Land," "Hole in the Ozone," "Water," "Turtle Jam," "Green Shoes Walk," "Whole New World" and "Light of the Sun."

KKDS (AM-1060) of Salt Lake City is a member of the Children's Satellite Network, and listeners can affect the weekly ratings by requesting songs at (800) 552-2470.

- KUER (FM-90.1) will air "New Orleans '93" Monday, May 31, 7 p.m.-11 p.m., with rich musical and cultural offerings from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

In other KUER news, the station received first place in four of six radio news categories in the Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists contest held earlier this month. Doug Fabrizio, Constance Crompton, Robert Smith, Kristie Snow and James Nelson were also honored for their outstanding news coverage.

- KBYU (FM-89.1) will broadcast "An Optimist in Spite of All: Helen Keller's Life Story" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 1. The program marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Keller.

KBYU will also air past concerts by the Utah Symphony each Saturday at 8 p.m. during June while the symphony is on vacation.

- The station's "Classical Top 40 Countdown" will be Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. The ranking is based on listener preferences. Listeners who submitted top 40 ballots are also eligible for prize drawings each day of the countdown after KBYU's 10 p.m. BBC news broadcasts.

- KSOS (FM-106.9, 103.1, 98.3, 92 and AM-800) is playing its annual countdown of the 500 greatest hits over the Memorial Day weekend. Both stations started their countdowns during the afternoon drive on Friday, May 28, and will continue through Memorial Day.

KSOS-AM's countdown will involve songs from the 1950s to the early 1960s and pre-Beatle days. KSOS-FM's countdown will include songs from the 1960s and 1970s with a sprinkling of the 1950s tunes that were still hot in the 1960s.

- KALL-FM (94.1) will present a special show on the Beatles Sunday at noon.

- MORNING RADIO HAPPENINGS - Tom Barberi's show on KALL-AM generated a letter to the editor in an Ogden newspaper last weekend. One listener is apparently upset that Barberi had Trina Eyring on the air. . . .

"Cano and Simmons" of KKAT played a song titled "Dana" last week and poked fun at their boss, Dana Horner. Who but the "Morning Guys" would be bold enough to joke about their employer? . . . "Taste Test Tuesday" was featured this week on the "Fisher and Todd" show on KISN-FM. Three listeners - Cindy, Trish and Roger - visited the studio to conduct a taste identification test on cola drinks. . . .

"Dom and Bill" of KXRK have revealed their full names to listeners. Bill Allred is really Ralph William Allred and Dom Casual says he is Dom Be Casual. The two "Project X" hosts also made fun of recent happenings on the "Jon and Dan" show and also of Clyde Lewis' return to the station. . . .

In a war of jokes, "Jon and Dan" on KLZX used a "Paul Harvster" segment to poke fun at KXRK. (However, Jon Carter insists he's going to quit playing this sort of publicity game with "Dom and Bill" and that they can continue poking fun at his show.) "Z-93" will give away its $30,000 "Z-Car" prize June 9, and every Friday is "Free Money Friday" at FM-93.3. Last Tuesday was also "Tap Dance Tuesday" for Jon and Dan's show. . . .

Ron Harrison and Allen Handy of KBER were back on the air Wednesday after their 18-day billboard perch and other problems. Illness kept Handy off the billboard Saturday, while on Monday, Harrison was slugged on the air by an irate listener. After that attack and some threats against the DJs and their families, KBER management took them off the billboard permanently and off the air for a few days. The billboard stunt was KBER's payoff for losing a bet to Seattle radio station KISW over the outcome of the Jazz-Sonics series. Some DJs at other stations believe the attack on Harrison was a publicity stunt.

- KBZN (alias "The Breeze," FM-97.9) - The group One will be the guest on the Sunday, May 30, "Musical Starstream" show, 8-10 a.m. Later in the day, Paul Hardcastle will be featured on "Jazz Trax," (7 p.m.-midnight).

- Here's a schedule of the station's "7 O'Clock CD" show next week:
