Joseph Taylor Bentley, age 87, died at the Country View Manor in Provo, Utah on June 15, 1993.
He was born March 6, 1906 in Colonia Juarez, Mexico to Joseph C. and Maud Taylor Bentley. He married Kathleen Bench on June 14, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Joseph attended Juarez State Academy in Mexico and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1928, and later received a Masters degree from BYU in 1955. He was a CPA and became chairman of the Accounting Department at BYU in 1955. In 1957 he became assistant to President Ernest Wilkinson and was later appointed Administrator of Church Schools.
He was an active member of the LDS Church, Oak Hills 6th Ward. His callings included General President of the Young Mens Mutual Improvement Association, General Manager of the Improvement Era, President of the BYU First Stake, in 1949 he was counselor in the Mexican Mission, Mission president of two missions; the North Mexican Mission from 1956 to 1957 and the Rosario, Argentina Mission, he and his wife were the first international missionaries to Budapest, Hungary and was the first Provo Temple presidency from 1976 to 1978.
Joseph is survived by his wife of Provo; three sons and three daughters, Maurine B. and J. Kimball Hansen of Benson, Arizona; Kathleen B. And Conrad G. Maxfield, serving a mission in the West Indies; Joseph C. and Barbara Bentley of Salt Lake City; Robert R. and Rebecca Bentley of Mesa, Ariz.; Frances B. and Roy A Hammond of Provo; Marion T. and Carolyn Bentley of Logan; 38 grandchildren; and 74 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rinda B. Sudweeks, Lavinia G. Jackson, and Lucy B. Priest. He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Bentley; three brothers, Roland Bentley, Marion Bentley, and Paul Bentley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 1993, at 11 a.m. at the Hillside Chapel, 2000 North 1500 East. Friends may all Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, and Saturday, one hour prior to services at the chapel.
