Julio Cesar Vasquez defended his WBA super-welterweight title Saturday with a 12-round decision over Aaron Davis.

Vasquez, of Argentina, improved to 44-1 with 33 knockouts in his fourth title defense. He won the title last December against Japan's Hitoshi Kamiyama.Judge Orlando Sam had it 116-115 and Samuel Conde 115-114 in favor of Vasquez. Armand Krief had it a draw, 115-115.

Davis, of New York, dropped to 43-2. His other loss was to Meldrick Taylor in January 1991 in Davis' first defense of the WBA welterweight crown that he won by upsetting Mark Breland.

"I should have won by more because I did most of the fighting and put him in danger often," Vasquez said. "It was a hard fight because Davis was in very good condition. But he didn't bother me. I didn't feel any of his punches."

Davis saw it differently.
