For computer users who have an IBM compatible computer running MS-DOS v3.3 or higher; a VGA graphics card and monitor; a Microsoft compatible mouse; and a 3 1/2-inch floppy drive and hard drive with at least 3MB free space, Wish-Bone is offering a free computer disk called "Building a Better Salad: Good News at the Top!"

If you eat salads regularly, this is a fun way to see how your salads stack up against the new USDA Food Guide Pyramid. By adding and subtracting ingredients from the list of 73 salad bar items, users can monitor the nutrient factors in their salads. The program begins with a review of the pyramid. By clicking the mouse, the users choose the ingredients for their salads. A nutrient summary on top of the screen keeps track of each selection. Users continue through the pyramid until they have made all their salad selections.

The final salad summary will appear on the screen as a spiral-bound notebook with the following nutrition information: salad items - what was actually selection and portion size; salad nutrients - reviews the number of servings from each food group in the salad and compares it to the total daily number of servings recommended by the USDA Food Guide Pyramid; fiber - lists recommended amount, how much the salad contains and tips on how to boost the fiber content; fat - recommendations, how much and how to decrease the amount; five a day - lists the number of fruit and vegetable selections in the salad, provides tips on increasing fruit and vegetable servings in salads; Wish-Bone Healthy Sensation! dressings.

As expected, the Healthy Sensation! dressings are in evidence. However, out of the 16 salad dressings listed, Wish-Bone only has five listed.

For free, this is a fun way to get familiar with the USDA Food Guide Pyramid and find out much fat is really in those salads!
