Dynix Inc., the world's largest automation supplier, opened its new corporate headquarters at RiverWoods Research and Business Park Wednesday morning.
The 100,000-square-foot building more than triples space at Dynix's former offices at East Bay Business Center in south Provo. The three-story building features 450 workstations, 22 conference rooms, two training rooms, a cafeteria, recreation facilities and employee locker rooms. The building occupies two acres of a 71/2-acre site. The remainder will be used for expansion.Dynix President Paul K. Sybrowsky said the company has the possibility of constructing a four- or five-building campus in the park near the mouth of Provo Canyon.
Corporate officers from Dynix and its parent company, Chicago-based Ameritech, employees, clients and local government officials participated in Wednesday's ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"Dynix has been conscientious in creating a design and layout for the building that blends the natural beauty of the area with a suitable environment. Over 40 percent of the area is landscaped and over 200 trees were planted to enhance the jogging, bike and equestrian paths that run along the river through this business park," he said.
Dynix was founded Aug. 22, 1983, with four employees, $200 and a rented computer. It now has 2,000 clients in 27 countries and employs 600 people in 13 offices worldwide.
Sixty-one libraries in Utah use a Dynix automation system, including ones in Alpine, Provo and Salt Lake City school districts.
As a 10th anniversary gift, the company designed the Utah Valley Link Project to promote information sharing in Utah County. The project makes it possible for local library patrons to access information such as local events calendars, best-seller lists, an electronic dictionary and other library catalogs available locally, nationally and internationally. Dynix offered $100,000 in software, installation services and training to area libraries.
Dynix's building is the second in the 112-acre RiverWoods Park. Universal Campus Credit Union is the other facility.
