Richard Seals, a third-team all-state tight end from Texas, told the Deseret News Thursday that he will sign a national letter of intent next month to play football for the University of Utah.

Seals, who is 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, caught 21 passes for 520 yards last season for Houston's Madison High School, which plays in Texas's biggest classification . He also was recruited by Minnesota, Syracuse and Texas A&M.One of Seals's teammates, defensive end Craig Koontz, also is believed to be heading for Utah. Koontz, 6-foot-6, 265 pounds, was an all-state defensive end and is being recruited by Miami, among other schools.

Meanwhile, John Converse, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound quarterback from Kihei, Hawaii, told the Deseret News Thursday that he also will sign with Utah. Playing in a six-game season, Converse set a league record by passing for 1,038 yards. He said he will play slotback or defensive back at Utah.
