Leticia Oaks Strong, formerly of Provo, was recently awarded a position in the viola section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. At 22, she is the youngest member of the orchestra.
Beginning studies at age 5, she worked in Utah with Hiroko Primrose and David Dalton. After graduating from Timpview High in 1990, she was awarded a full-tuition music scholarship to the University of Southern California, where she studied with Donald McInnes. In 1994 she received a bachelors degree from USC, where she was selected the outstanding graduate from the school of music. She is the daughter of Merrill and Josephine Oaks of Provo, and is married to David Strong.- CHARLES R. LOVING, assistant director of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, University of Utah, recently accepted the position of assistant director at the Snite Museum of Art, on the campus of Notre Dame University, South Bend, Indiana.
Loving received an M.A. degree from the University of Utah, and worked in the visual arts program of the Utah Arts Council before going to the Museum as registrar in 1984. He has been assistant director for five years, with major contributions to securing grants and funding for special exhibits. Loving has been a very visible representative of the museum, serving the arts community on many boards and as a juror, curator, writer, panelist and speaker.
- THREE YOUNG UTAH PIANISTS - Jessica Weiss, 6 years old of Orem, Stephanie Messick, 8, Salt Lake City, and Dustin Gledhill, 14, Provo - recently performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Their appearance resulted from their winning first prizes in their divisions of the 1994 Sonatina and Sonata International Youth Competition sponsored by the Fryderyk Chopin Society of Texas. All are pupils of Irene Peery.
