A memorable failure: The day I learned that "mud" wasn't really dirt and water but cement. I was helping a relative build a home when he asked me to make mud. I diligently combined dirt and water in a large wheelbarrow.

Heroes: My parents, my wife, sons and daughters. My family has always been my measuring stick and served as excellent role models.

Leisure time and hobbies: Reading, being involved with all sports, coaching basketball and baseball and serving others.

Favorite book and movie: "Les Miserables" and "Somewhere in Time."
