Alvin G. Pack, 87, radio and television pioneer and former advertising executive and radio announcer, died Oct. 1, 1994, at his Salt Lake home.

Mr. Pack and his wife, the former Lena Marie Hansen, to whom he was married 67 years, were pioneers in the broadcast industry and were honored by the Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1988.He directed the first television program telecast in Utah and was author of the first radio organizational manual. He designed the sound system for what was then known as the University of Utah Special Events Center.

Mr. Pack began work in the broadcast field as an announcer at radio station KLO in Ogden in 1930 and held a number of posts at other radio stations, including KSL and KDYL. He was the first manager of KALL Radio. He received one of five Iwo Jima medals for distinguished radio contributions during World War II. As executive vice president of a 47-station network, he was awarded the American Advertising Club's Star of Special Merit.

He served an LDS mission to Great Britain, and with his wife served missions to the San Diego and Nauvoo, Ill., visitors centers. For 15 years he prepared materials for displays at Temple Square, and the Packs were members of the Temple Square Concert Committee. He was bishop for 61/2 years of University Ward and high councilor in University Stake and later University West Stake for a total of 10 years.

Funeral will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Arlington Hills Ward, 1300 Fairfax Road, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
