Reed H. Bradford, 82, a former Brigham Young University sociology professor and church and civic worker, died Oct. 4, 1994, of cancer.

He taught for more than 43 years at BYU, where he had been chairman of the department of sociology and acting dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.Mr. Bradford graduated from BYU in 1937 and later as a professor was the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award. Also, he received the Professor of the Year Award in 1959 and the Karl G. Maeser Award for Career Teaching Excellence in 1967. He received a master's degree in sociology from Louisiana State University and a master's degree and a doctorate in the same field from Harvard University.

He helped establish the Timpanogos Mental Health Center, serving as a member of its advisory board for 20 years, and gave service to many professional organizations. For nine years he hosted a program on radio station KSRR in Orem. Until recently he was program director for the Golden Kiwanis Club of Provo.

Mr. Bradford served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the Sunday School General Board, Adult Correlation Committee and as a patriarch at the Missionary Training Center and in the BYU 3rd Stake. He served an LDS mission in Germany.

Funeral will be at noon Monday, Oct. 10, in the Oak Hills Stake Center, 865 E. North Temple Drive, Provo, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
