Michael Irvin, James Washington and assistant coach Hubbard Alexander have been fined a total of $27,000 for their involvement in Monday night's Dallas Cowboys-New York Giants halftime brawl.
Irvin was fined because he swung his helmet at opposing players, Alexander was fined "for inflaming the situation," and Washington was fined "for brandishing a monopod (camera stand)" as a weapon, said National Football League executive Gene Washington. But Alexander - who called his $5,000 fine "really unfair" - shouldn't pull out his wallet just yet. Irvin said he personally will take care of Alexander's fine if necessary.
Irvin said he hasn't considered whether he'll appeal his $12,000 fine, the second-highest assessed by the NFL office this season behind Francis' $12,500.
Washington said he would pay his $10,000 fine without protest in hopes "that will be the end of it. . . . I'll take care of what I should take care of, and it'll be all over with," he said.
Giants defensive backs Jarvis Williams and Jesse Campbell both said they will appeal the $8,000 fines they were assessed.
The melee erupted after Cowboys receiver Alvin Harper was injured on the final play of the first half. The Cowboys thought the Giants' Tito Wooten hit Harper low before the arrival of the ball. No penalty was called. The non-call and the penalty led to a shouting match that escalated.
All NFL fine money goes to charity.
