Running back Sherriden May became the NCAA I-AA career touchdown leader Saturday as Idaho routed Weber State 79-30 in a Big Sky Conference football game.
The Vandals rose to 5-1 in the conference, 9-1 overall. The Wildcats finished their season 2-5 in the Big Sky, 5-6 overall.Idaho scored 51 points in the first half. The Vandal defense accounted for 16 of those points as they returned two fumbles for touchdowns and forced a safety.
Wildcat quarterback Bryan Martin was called for intentional grounding in his own end zone, producing that safety which put Idaho ahead 9-0.
May ran for 124 yards and scored the 61st touchdown of his career. He passed the 60-touchdown mark of Nevada's Charvez Foger in 1989.
Idaho quarterback Brian Brennan completed 9-of-16 passes for 184 yards and five touchdowns. Eric Hisaw, who has been nursing a sprained ankle, came in in the fourth quarter and completed 5-of-6 passes for 63 yards.
Martin led Weber as he completed 14-of-32 passes for 153 yards. Reggie Carter paced the Wildcats in rushing with 50 yards on his lone carry.
The Vandal defense held Weber to only 36 yards rushing while the Idaho offense chalked up 319 yards on the ground.
"We did some awful good things," Idaho head coach John L. Smith said. "Defensively we really played well, and offensively we couldn't ask for anything more."
Jamarcus Stewart put up the first Weber State points in recovering a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown in the first quarter. The Wildcats would not score again until 4:28 left in the third quarter when Martin connected with Norvel Young with a 15-yard scoring strike.
