SWAT officers from the Salt Lake County sheriff's office were trying to coax a kidnapping suspect out of a barricaded home Tuesday.
Details at press time were sketchy, but spokesman Rod Norton said an 18-year-old student at Cypress High School was wanted for questioning in connection with the kidnapping and attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl. The girl was taken from the school Monday about 1 p.m. by the boy that deputies believed was barricaded in the house Tuesday. He took the girl Monday to an undisclosed location and attempted to rape her. The victim did not know the suspect, Norton said.
"For whatever reason, he let her go. We tried to serve an arrest warrant to him this morning about 10 a.m. and he didn't answer the door."
The boy was believed to be armed with a handgun.
