Luzon Orvilla Stevens Crosby, 80, of Orem, died of pneumonia Monday December 19, 1994 at her home in Orem.
She was born April 21, 1914 in Elberta, Utah to Hugh Albert and Edna Orvilla Stevens. She married Samuel Obed Crosby December 23, 1932 in Duchesne, Utah, their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.She graduated from Roosevelt High School valedictorian of her graduating class. After her children were in school she went to Brigham Young University and graduated in the top 3% of her class.In college she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Lamba Delta. She taught first grade in Orem, Spencer, Scera Park and Westmore schools. She has always been active in the LDS church. She was a counselor and secretary in Relief Society, Beehive and Sunday School teacher, she was a counselor in the West Orem Stake Primary, she helped start the Cub Scout program in Orem West Stake. She was a visiting teacher for many years, she enjoyed genealogy and temple work. She had many hobbies, including hybridizing and growing hundreds of iris and seedlings producing 38 worthy of naming, among those one won 1st prize in Florence, Italy in world competition in 1959. She was a judge in the flower shows at the Utah State Fair and throughout the state for many years. She was an artist in oils, watercolors, china painting and textile painting. She made beautiful handiwork including knit sweaters, suits, afghans and lace. She made beautiful pottery thrown on the wheel. She and her husband were "Rock Hounds" and gathered and made many articles of jewelry.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Obed; children: Marilyn and John George, West Valley; Samuel Lloyd Crosby, Hyland Ranch, Colorado; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters Thelma Bosch, Wisconsin; Lois Taylor, Ogden; Wanda and Guy Moore; Lindon, and a brother Robert H. and Joan Stevens, Clearfield. She was preceded in death by sons: Steve and Evan Crosby; brother, George Stevens and two infant brothers Lyle Vernon, Donald Hugh; sister, Nedra Holfeltz and two infant sisters Dorothy Hazel and Verle Dean.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 1994, at 11 a.m. in the Orem Park 3rd Ward Chapel, 195 West 300 South in Orem. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St. in Orem and also Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
