Outgoing Senate majority leader George Mitchell is starting his retirement in Florida.
Mitchell will lecture at four state colleges. He said recently that he received "a fairly large number" of proposals from schools trying to land him, but the ones in Florida put together an attractive eight-lecture package on public affairs. There's also a family connection. His sister owns a house on Key Biscayne.
The lectures will fill some of the Democrat's time while leaving him open to full-time employment, including the oft-mentioned baseball commissioner's job.
"I'm simply going to pursue these other activities, and if an offer is made I'll consider it," he said.
