A Salt Lake man is in the Summit County Jail on suspicion of killing his pregnant girlfriend.
Calvin Shane Myers, 21, is being held pending a criminal review by the county attorney and the attorney general's office. He is being investigated in the stabbing death of a 20-year-old woman who was four to six months pregnant.
A snowmobiler found the woman's body on Sunday near the edge of Rockport Reservoir. She had been stabbed repeatedly, said sheriff's Sgt. Joe Offret.
Police have identified the woman but are not releasing the name pending notification of her relatives. Her parents' whereabouts are unknown.
Offret said Myers and the woman had been living together off and on for several months but their relationship had become strained lately.
On the evening of Dec. 2, the couple went for a drive to Rockport Reservoir. An argument ensued and she was stabbed, apparently with a hunting knife, late that evening or in the early morning hours of Dec. 3. Her body was left at the scene of the crime.
"(Myers) was angry with her. It's been a bad relationship for a while," Offret said. "He was mad over a lot of things she did."
Some of her actions were perceived by Myers to be a threat to his parole status, Offret said.
The victim has a history of prostitution and drug-related offenses, Offret said.
The detective said he is not sure if Myers knew his girlfriend was pregnant or if the baby is his. Regardless, the state is considering filing two homicide charges.
"That's something we're talking over with the attorney general's office."
A friend of Myers has been booked into jail for investigation of obstructing justice. The friend, a 21-year-old Salt Lake man, was apparently at the scene of the slaying, said Sheriff Fred Eley.
