Mountain Fuel Supply Co. has a New Year's gift planned for Utahns: the lowest gas rates for residential customers in almost 12 years.
The company is asking the Utah Public Service Commission to approve a $6.2 million pass-through rate decrease, which would go into effect Jan. 1, 1995. The typical residential customer's bill would drop by $8.38 annually, to a total of $506.28.Mountain Fuel spokesman Steve Chapman said the drop is partly because of a reduction in the cost of natural gas, partly because of the amortization of a surplus in one of the company's accounts. The decrease was requested in the utility's semiannual rate adjustment or pass-through filing with the PSC.
"This is the eighth consecutive pass-through rate decrease Mountain Fuel has implemented in its Utah service area," Chapman said.
