Steve Sarkisian, a record-breaking quarterback from El Camino (Calif) Junior College, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play football for BYU the next two seasons. Sarkisian, regarded as the top junior college QB in the nation by most, passed for more than 4,400 yards and completed better than 70 percent of his passes this past season.
The 6-2, 205-pounder from Torrance, Calif., will enroll at BYU for the winter semester in January and will participate in spring drills. Although he was recruited by many big name schools, his final decision was between BYU and Kansas State.Sarkisian, who attended the same high school current Cougar quarterback John Walsh, has no redshirt available and will have two years to play two. Walsh and Sarkisian worked out together with the same coach last summer in Torrance.
Walsh, a junior, has said he will return for his senior season at BYU, but there has been speculation he may opt for the NFL draft instead - especially since Sarkisian has previously stated he wanted to attend a school where he would have a chance at starting immediately.
