I fully agree with Robert English in his recent letter, "We have power to roll taxes back." (Forum Dec. 11). In November we selected representatives to go to Washington with this very message to be applied at the federal level. But far worse are property taxes at the local level that are being raised exorbitantly, encouraged by mandates from state to adjust property values upward.

Will mill levies or tax percentages be adjusted downward to compensate? Maybe, but just a token amount to avoid angry taxpayers. We have a constitutional right to own property. Or do we? Legislators and bureaucrats are doing all they can to slow the growth of property ownership. The final bit of irony is that schools are the principal recipients of my property tax dollars, and many are following a plan called outcome based education or, in my book, "dumbed down education."I say yes to a California style ballot measure to roll back property taxes.
