Carl Smith Westerberg died of causes incident to age in Salt Lake City, Utah on Feb. 13, 1994.

Born May 22, 1909, Galesburg, Illinois, son of Charles H. and Ida S. Westerberg. Married Alma Inez Miller July 16, 1938.He was educated in public schools of Galesburg, Illinois, graduated from Knox College and did graduate work in English and Chemistry at the University of Illinois. Employed as chemist with the Illinois Geological Survey, Preparation Engineer, Executive Engineer and assistant to president, Utah Fuel Co. He was a Sales Engineer with Link-Belt Co., Chicago, Illinois. Editor and writer, Bituminous Coal Research, Inc., Pittsburg, Pa.; Chief Engineer, Minerals Development Corp., Somerset, Colorado, and Professional Consulting in mining engineering, doing work throughout USA, Canada, and Indonesia while based in Salt Lake City. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, A.I.M.E., A.S.M., and R.M.C.M.I.

He was a member of Wasatch Presbyterian Church and served as Ruling Elder, choir member, Sunday School teacher, photographer and Mariner member.

He is survived by his wife, Inez M. Westerberg, three children: Linda W. Carter, Salt Lake City; Susan W. McDermaid, Naples, Italy, and Stephen C. Westerberg, Ph.D., Reno, Nevada; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Presbyterian Church on February 19, 1994 at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Wasatch Lawn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a memorial at Wasatch Presbyterian Church.
