Patty Loveless was speechless during the final months of 1992, the result of emergency laser surgery to remove a blood vessel on her vocal cords.

During the weeks of enforced therapeutic silence, her friends and fans wondered whether she would be able to resume her career as an acclaimed country-music vocalist. She wondered, too. But her "comeback" a year ago proved that, if anything, she sounds better than ever.

Today, her latest single, "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" is climbing the country music charts. And her album, "Only What I Feel," on Epic, shows a voice that has been called "unbridled, passionate and powerful."

Loveless will be in concert at the Jon M. Huntsman Center at the University of Utah Tuesday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by KSOP.
