Three Utah County teenagers remain hospitalized at separate medical centers following a collision in American Fork Canyon on Saturday night.

The teens were driving west on southbound U-92 at approximately 11:30 p.m., when the driver, Michael Mattfeld, 16, evidently lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the northbound lane, striking a pickup truck head on, said a Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher.Passengers in the truck, whose names were not released, were treated at American Fork Hospital and released. Mattfeld, who was pinned behind the wheel, had to be extricated from the car using the Jaws of Life. He was taken to American Fork Hospital, where he remains in fair condition, suffering from a fractured left leg and right arm, said a hospital spokesman.

Two of Mattfeld's passengers, 15-year-old Joshua Waldron and 16-year-old Jessica Adams, were taken to the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, via Life Flight, for treatment of their injuries. Both remain in serious but stable condition. Another passenger, a 16-year-old whose identity was not disclosed, was taken to American Fork Hospital on Saturday night, was treated for minor cuts and bruises and released.
