Compaq Computer Corp. Monday began selling five new notebook computers, the first to have built-in electric cords rather than a detachable adapter.

The company also introduced a low-cost line of "servers," which provide processing power to networks of PCs.Both products are chiefly aimed at businesses.

The notebook computers, dubbed Compaq LTE Elite, range in price from $3,299 to $6,499. They come with 486 microproces-sors operating in a speed range of 40 to 75 MHz. In addition, they have removable hard drives with a capacity of up to 510 megabytes.

With the built-in power cord, the computers weigh 6.8 pounds. Typically, a notebook computer weighs 5 to 6 pounds without an adapter.
