The singer Ella Fitzgerald had both her legs amputated below the knee in separate operations last year because of complications from diabetes, according to her spokeswoman, Mary Jane Outwater.
Outwater told The Associated Press that she did not know why the operations were not disclosed when they were performed but would release no further details."It's been done a long time ago and of course she's fine and she's at home," she said. "She is in really good shape and good spirits."
Miss Fitzgerald, a member of the Grammy Hall of Fame, turns 76 on April 25.
