Former Ute basketball coach Lynn Archibald has been hired to be Roger Reid's assistant at BYU, according to a BYU press release.

BYU announced Tuesday afternoon that Archibald, an assistant at Arizona State the past five seasons, would fill the vacancy created by the departure of Charles Bradley, who is now head coach at Metro State in Denver.Archibald said, "My family and I are very excited to return to Utah . . . I have been impressed with what Roger has done these last five years at BYU."

Reid said he had 60 applicants for the job but decided to approach Archibald. "I've always been impressed with his work ethic and his outstanding recruiting ability," Reid said. "He has been involved with some great college basketball programs, plus he's been a head coach and he understands what it's like to be in that position."

Archibald's primary responsibility at ASU was the offense. He also was heavily involved in recruiting and helped sign some of the top high school players in the nation.

From 1983-89, Archibald was head coach at Utah, where he posted a 98-85 record, won one WAC title and received two NCAA tournament berths.
