The Richfield post office has made some improvements to aid the physically handicapped.
A new ramp at the post office provides easier access for the handicapped while allowing those in wheelchairs accessibility from a disabled-designated parking area. Mail slots, a table and the stamp machine have also been lowered to better accommodate handicapped postal patrons.New swinging doors that open in and out have been installed, as well as non-slip covers on the steps in front of the post office. Additional hand rails are being planned as safety measures.
An extra mail delivery route has been established because of increased numbers of residential and business deliveries.
"The result of adjustments (in mail deliveries) is to increase our service to the customer," said Lynn Bloxham, officer in charge. He was recently appointed as a temporary replacement for Postmaster Gene Peterson, who transferred to the post office in Fairview, Sanpete County.
Bloxham said there may be some delivery delays as postal employees learn new routes and adjust to changes. He anticipates a "dramatic improvement" in arrival time of mail deliveries, however.
The mail collection route throughout the city is also being upgraded. Collection boxes are being relocated and the collection time will be standardized at 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
The improvement project at the post office was contracted with J. T. Grant Construction of Duchesne, Uintah County.
