Jeff Gillooly, former husband of figure skater Tonya Harding, is going to boot camp to try to shorten his prison sentence.
The Shutter Creek Correctional Institute, located north of Coos Bay in Hauser, confirmed that Gillooly will arrive Monday as a member of the third platoon to enter the new Oregon Summit Program. As a first-time nonviolent offender under the age of 40, Gillooly fits the criteria for the program, said prison security manager Fred Titmas.
The program is designed to break people out of the pattern of criminal behavior with military-style training, education, and counseling.
Gillooly was sentenced to two years in prison and fined $100,000 after pleading guilty to racketeering for his involvement in the January attack on Harding's rival figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.
If Gillooly finishes the six-month boot camp, he could have 11 to 18 months taken off his sentence.
