Sofield leaves U. . . .
Utah baseball coach Rick Sofield has announced he is leaving the Runnin' Utes to take a job with the Montreal Expos Class A farm club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
"It's been a great seven years," he said Wednesday. "I've met some wonderful people and hopefully, I've left the program in better shape than I found it."
U of U athletic director Chris Hill said assistant coach Steve Gillespie will serve as interim coach until a replacement is named.
. . . Snow loses Tidwell
EPHRAIM, Sanpete County - Snow College head football coach Paul Tidwell has accepted a similar post at Eastern Arizona Community College and will begin his duties there Feb. 1.
The former North Sanpete High coach arrived at Snow in 1984 as the defensive coordinator for Walt Criner, taking over as head coach in 1987. His record over the past eight seasons was 51-27-3.
Tidwell played football at Ogden High and was starting fullback at Utah State for two years.
