Tooele County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals who damaged a weather monitoring station on Faust Road (between U-73 and U-36) early this week.

Don Hartman of Tooele County Emergency Management said an anemometer/wind vane was damaged by shotgun fire sometime between Friday and Tuesday morning. Damage is estimated at $1,000. Anyone with information on the incident should contact the Tooele County sheriff's office at 882-5600.Weather monitoring stations are under construction throughout Tooele County in conjunction with the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program. Data from the stations is critical in responding to events such as hazards and other potential disasters. When fully operational, the stations will also provide data for use by the National Weather Service, Department of Defense, Bureau of Land Management, Soil Conservation Service, U.S. Forest Service, local media and other agencies.

A reward program for information on incidents of vandalism was approved by the Tooele County Commission in April 1994 and is funded by the Tooele County Department of Emergency Management.
