Roger M. Boisjoly of Boisjoly Engineering Ltd., Roosevelt, was named Engineer of the Year for 1994 by the Utah Society of Professional Engineers.
He was employed for more than 27 years in the aerospace industry, working principally in mechanical design and structural analysis.His last assignment was with Morton-Thiokol as a technical troubleshooter and one of five engineers selected to solve joint seal problems with space shuttle rocket boosters.
Boisjoly opposed the launch of the space shuttle Challenger, which was subsequently destroyed in flight because of a joint seal failure. The engineer testified before a presidential commission on the Challenger and has appeared on numerous television and radio programs about the disaster.
He has lectured at universities, technical societies, corporations and civic groups and has published articles in a number of journals.
