Stagg has several new chili flavors for you to try: Ranch House with chicken, Laredo with beans and Turkey Ranchero. A 15-ounce can retails for $1.17.
Don Russell (married, five children at home, ages 6-16): "Our Ranch House chicken version of Stagg's chili was very meaty and pleased most members of our family. We especially enjoyed the generous amount of diced green peppers and jalepeno peppers, which were not too hot. Stagg's chili would taste very good when served over a baked potato. If you're in a rut with your usual brand of canned chili, try this one."Edyth Jensen (married, three children at home): We had the turkey chili and it was good. The turkey makes no difference in flavor, this is chili! My son said it was spicy and it had just a touch of sweetness to it. It's quite expensive, I probably won't buy it a lot.
Nihla Lake (married, two children at home): "Our family `gobbled up' their turkey chili. We had tried this same brand made with beef and found it to be too hot. The turkey variety was just right. It was a little sweeter than the other chili we have eaten, but it had a good flavor. Also, the fat content is almost one-half of beef chili."
Linda C. Tingey (single mother, two teenage boys at home): "We tried the chicken chili over a baked potato and it was very good. Just spicy enough so it isn't blah. My kids like baked potatoes with chili and grated cheese, so I'll definitely buy this again. The price is pretty reasonable. I've been buying Nalley's, but I like this better. It's a nice change from regular chili."
Rich Firmage (married, three children, oldest 10 years old): "We had chili cheese dogs the other day, and everyone liked this Stagg chili. We don't eat very much chili, so we're not experts like some people. It tasted just like chili. We'll buy it again if it is as cheap or cheaper than the other stuff we've been buying."
Bill Allred (single): "This chili is really nothing to write home about. (I'm not sure why anyone would write home about chili, but there you have it.) Its consistency was too watery and there wasn't enough meat in it. It says on the can, `You can see the taste.' Perhaps that was my problem. I didn't gaze into the bowl long enough to `see' how good this chili was. In the television commercial for Stagg chili, a man meets an attractive blonde woman in a grocery store as they are both buying the product. They end up having chili together in his kitchen. The only reason I would buy this product again is to meet women."
Conclusion: For the most part, if you go "Stagg" you won't be alone! You'll have lots of company eating this chili. (And we wish Bill Allred lots of luck!)
