An LDS missionary from Cottonwood Heights was killed Tuesday in a traffic accident.

Elder Joshua Vaughn Berrett, 20, died when the car in which he was a passenger was broadsided by a pickup truck in an intersection north of Queen Creek, about 20 miles southeast of Mesa.The driver, Elder Steven Rogers, 20, Edmond, Okla., suffered broken ribs and was in stable condition Wednesday morning at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital-Osborn.

The two were missionary companions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona Tempe Mission. Berrett was about one month away from completing his two-year mission, Arizona church spokesman Joe Porter said.

The driver of the pickup truck was in stable condition Wednesday at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix.
