Brent W. Webb has been named new executive director of the Brigham Young University Office of Research and Creative Activities.

Webb replaces Gary R. Hooper, who has been named an associate academic vice president for research and graduate studies.The office encourages and supports research, creative endeavors and academic scholarship among BYU faculty, students and staff.

A BYU alumnus, Webb joined the BYU mechanical engineering faculty in 1986 after completing a doctorate at Purdue University, where he was a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator.

He has served as principal or co-principal investigator on research grants and contracts totaling more than $2 million from such agencies as the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation and private industry.
