When Josh Burkman reeled in a 37-yard touchdown pass from Dain Herbat in the fourth quarter of Cottonwood's game with Davis Friday night, he did more than give the host Colts a 7-3 come-from-behind victory. He ended three years of futility.

The win, which snapped the Colts' 26-game losing streak, was the result of sound defense, which yielded only a 24-yard field goal from Chyad Hansen, and solid play from the Burkman brothers, Josh and his brother, Jared.In other action around the state:

Region 1

Clearfield 49, Roy 20: Jeremy Robbins and Josh Anderson each scored two touchdowns for the league-leading Falcons.

Layton 24, Fremont 21: The Lancers edged the Silver Wolves in this tight Region 1 showdown.

Weber 27, Northridge 15: Reggie Wilson rushed for 105 yards on 12 carries and the Warrior defense held the Knights scoreless in the second half.

Region 2

Skyline 45, Viewmont 8: Jack Peck rushed for three touchdowns and caught a pass from Jason Anderson for a fourth as the Eagles dominated the game on both sides of the ball.

Region 3

Copper Hills 20, Kearns 14: D. J. Davis rushed for 19-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to give the come-from-behind Grizzlies their second straight victory.

Granger 27, West Jordan 21: Fahu Tahi rushed for 196 yards on 15 carries, including a 70-yard touchdown trot, as the host Lancers overcame a 14-point first-quarter deficit to win.

Taylorsville 42, Hunter 6: Bryan Ball rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another in leading the surprising Warriors to their fifth win of the year. Lewis Sorenson led the defense with a fumble recovery and an interception.

Region 4

Alta 27, Jordan 21: Chris Nelson rushed for 163 yards and one touchdown to lead the host Hawks over the Beetdiggers.

Mountain View 35, American Fork 26: Mathew Rowe caught six passes for 152 yards and scored three touchdowns to lift the Bruins over the visiting Cavemen.

Hillcrest 42, Timpanogos 7: The Huskies kept the state's newest school winless, dominating the game on both sides of the ball.

Region 5

Sky View 25, Ogden 12: The Bobcats garnered their first victory with a strong performance against the Tigers.

Logan 35, Ben Lomond 0: Brad Dickson led the visiting Grizzlies by scoring three touchdowns.

Box Elder 35, Mountain Crest 21: Brian Cusick rushed for two TDs and passed for two more as the host Bees stung the the Mustangs. The Bee defense did its part, limiting Mountain Crest to only 33 yards on the ground.

Region 6/7

East 56, Woods Cross 0: The host Leopards scored early, easily and often, jumping out to 42-0 halftime lead and coasting in from there. Jared Carson scored three TDs and Richard Dunn caught a 61-yard TD pass from Jon Hatch to lead the Leopard attack.

Olympus 31, Judge Memorial 10: The Titans' defense picked off seven Bulldog passes, while Brad Hiatt paced the Oly offense, throwing for two scores.

West 38, Tooele 17: After spotting the Buffalos an early 10-point lead the Panthers pounced for 17 points in the second quarter and 21 more unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Region 8

Timpview 24, Payson 0: The Thunderbird defense held the Lions in check, while Jarom Dastrup and Lane Gardner connected for a pair of TD passes en route to victory.

Provo 17, Springville 14: Nick Rhineer caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Matt Thornton with 1:20 left in regulation to lift the host Bulldogs over the Red Devils.

Spanish Fork 47, Pleasant Grove 0: Quinn Hampton passed for 308 yards and four scores in leading the host Dons to an easy win.

Class 3A North

Carbon 41, Park City 24: J.D. Jorgensen ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the visiting Dinosaurs whipped up on the Miners.

Emery 14, Uintah 7: Evan Stilson threw two touchdown passes - the second in the fourth quarter - and the Spartan defense did the rest.

North Sanpete 51, Union 21: Ben Anderson rushed for 175 yards and found pay dirt three times as the visiting Hawks raced away from the Cougars.

Lehi 38, Wasatch 14: The third-ranked Pioneers picked up the win in Heber City over the No. 5 Wasps.

Class 3A South

Dixie 28, Cedar City 13: The Flyers protected their home turf with a win over the rival Redmen.

Pine View 28, Richfield 7: Jeff Schuman led an inspired Panther defense with 10 unassisted tackles and R.J. Mathews returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown to set the tone.

Snow Canyon 48, Hurricane 15: Brooksby Stafford rushed 253 yards and Lance Warby added 104 more yards on the ground as the Warriors crushed the visiting Tigers.

Region 12

Gunnison 35, South Summit 14: Travis Avery rushed for two touchdowns and returned an interception 40 yards for another as the host Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-0 halftime, then called off the hounds.

Grantsville 27, Manti 0: J.R. Didericksen raced 32 yards to give the Cowboys an early 7-0 lead and Aaric Allred threw two second-quarter touchdowns to lead visiting Grantsville to victory.

Juab 20, North Summit 14 : Wyatt Newton scored on a four-yard run in overtime to give the Wasps the come-from-behind victory over the Indian Braves. Josh Park preserved the win with an interception to end the game.

Morgan 56, Millard 0: The top-ranked Trojans stymied the No. 4 Eagles in Fillmore. Morgan is now 6-0 overall.

Region 13

Beaver 6, Parowan 0: Daniel Carter's 24-yard pass from Brandon Raddon amounted to the only score in this defensive slugfest.

San Juan 7, Kanab 6: Brandon Bradford took a 91-yard pass from Tate Bennett in the first quarter, and the Bronco defense shut down the host Cowboys, holding them scoreless over the final quarters to preserve the win.

North Sevier 19, Monticello 6: Justin Yardley rushed for 77 yards on 18 carries and scored one touchdown to lift the Wolves over the visiting Buckaroos. North Sevier is 6-0 for the first-time ever.

South Sevier 14, Grand 9: Trent Brown scored on runs of one and two yards to give the Rams a hard-fought victory over the visiting Red Devils.

Class 1A

Altamont 48, Milford 28: The visiting Longhorns captured their first win by knocking off the host Tigers, who were ranked third.

Nonregion

Bear River 61, Delta 33: Nick Chournos rushed for a school-record 318 yards on 29 carries and scored six touchdowns as the third-ranked 4A Bears demoralized the defending 3A champs.

Bonneville 44, Bingham 21: Cody McGarry caught a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Lakers - which led only 24-14 at intermission - to victory going away.

Rich 35, West Side, Idaho 0: Brad Weston rushed for 137 yards as the visiting Rebels rolled to victory - the Randolph school's 20th straight victory.

Newcomb, N.M. 12, Whitehorse 6: The visitors from the Land of Enchantment doubled up the Raiders.

Morgan JV 27, Duchesne 26: The second-ranked Eagles fell short Wednesday.
