Bob Shaw, a science fiction writer, has died. He was 64.

Shaw died in Warrington, north of London, on Feb. 11, The Guardian and Independent newspapers reported Saturday. He had been suffering from cancer.His best-known novel is "Other Days, Other Eyes" (1972) in which "slow glass" slows light and allows past events to be seen. Other novels among the 30 books he wrote were "Orbitsville" (1975) and "The Ragged Astronauts."

The Belfast-born Shaw was trained as an engineer and also worked as a journalist for the Belfast Telegraph newspaper in the 1960s.
