Norman "Ray" Painter, died Wednesday, March 13, 1996.

He was born Nov. 12, 1912 in Nephi, a son of Henry and Anna Norman Painter and was raised in Nephi.As a young man he met and married his first wife, Myrtle Oram on September 7, 1937 in Eureka. She died in the Yellowstone earthquake, August 20, 1959. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in January 1960. In 1963 he met his second wife, Lois Winger and married her in the Salt Lake Temple on June 25, 1964. They were married 32 years.

During the war he worked at Hill Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic. After the war, he opened Ray Painter Service, retiring after 38 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church.

Survived by his wife, Lois of Ogden; one son, Kenneth Ray (Cheri) Painter, South Jordan; three daughters, Carol Painter, Anne Kirkman, both of Salt Lake City; Anita (Steven) Thon, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one stepson, Ron Winder, North Hollywood, Calif.; one step-daughter, Eileen Mertens, Ogden; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle, his grandson, Mark Painter, five sisters and two brothers.

He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the South Ogden 5th Ward Chapel, 4380 Orchard Ave. Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the ward chapel from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park.
