Eugenia Price, whose historical novels sold millions of copies worldwide and were translated into 18 languages, died Tuesday. She was 79.

"Beauty for Ashes," the third book in her Georgia trilogy, made The New York Times best seller list in 1995.Price wrote radio soap operas and Christian devotional books before adopting St. Simons Island as her home in 1963.

The story of island resident Anson Dodge and his two wives became the subject of Price's first historical novel, "Beloved Invader."

After completing her "St. Simons Trilogy," Price was asked by Doubleday to write a historical novel about Atlanta, but she replied that Margaret Mitchell had already done it. They agreed on Savannah as the setting for her next book, and it turned into another "trilogy."
